Designed by: Nick Catalfamo. Inspired by vintage travel posters and the tattoo art of Sailor Jerry, Nick's design harkens back to a post-WWII America that fell in love with idea of the "island paradise." A popular tattoo subject among sailors, the mermaid image often signified the seductive allure of far-flung Pacific islands visited during the war.
Stories from returning soldiers helped to popularize island destinations in the collective consciousness, while advancements in air travel began to make places like Hawaii more accessible. Framed in Hawaiian hibiscus, the mermaid in Nick's design is meant to evoke those romantic notions of sailing off for a distant island, digging your toes into a white sandy beach, and living out the the fantasy of an endless Summer.
