Nomadland (2020)

Nomadland (2020)

Recently at The Rugged Society we watched: NOMADLAND. Did You see it?

Nomadland is a 2020 film written, directed, co-produced, and edited by Chloé Zhao about an almost-true story of older Americans living in their vans, where Frances McDormand plays a woman who is both a free spirit and labor-market refugee.

The film tells the story of Fern, a 60-year-old woman who lost her husband and her job during the Great Recession that hit the United States between 2007 and 2013. After this loss, the woman starts to travel to the United States in her van and, on the road, mets other nomads like her.

The film is an adaptation of the 2017 book with the same name by journalist Jessica Bruder (Nomadland: Surviving America in the Twenty-First Century), and it won the Golden Lion at the 77th Venice International Film Festival.
