‘With an intense and intriguing voice Bracken expresses himself with effortless ease. Through lyrics. Through mantras. And always like a magnet.’ - Teraz Rock Magazine

Born in Gosford, Australia Phillip Bracken relocated with his family to Poland in 2013. Arriving late on the music scene Bracken didn’t take up songwriting until in his mid-twenties and released his first EP, Everything Looks Better in Candlelight in 2008 at the age of 27. Garnering more attention in Europe than his homeland spurred the Australian and his Polish wife to relocate a few years later. An astute decision as Bracken went on to record The Opole Session (2012) and Live at Radio Opole (2016) after being introduced to Polish ethno-jazz icon Jacek Mielcarek and his musical friends.
His new surroundings offered opportunities to tour both in Poland and in greater Europe including shows in Portugal, Germany and Holland. His first tour in Poland provided the chance to support Marcelina and Robert Cichy in 2014 which he then followed with his first tour of Czechia. Subsequent tours of Germany and Italy followed and he frequently returned to those countries until the pandemic hit in 2020.
At the height of the pandemic in 2020 Bracken released his debut full length album Wolf Ahead Tiger Behind with his band comprised of Mateusz Szemraj (Karolina Cicha I Spółka, Karolina Skrzyńska, Lomi Lomi), Denis Dubiella (Hanimal), and Wojciech Lubertowicz (Mosaic, Adam Strug, Masala Soundsystem). The album features Robert Cichy on guitar on the title track and Jacek Mielcarek on Push Me.
In November 2021, at the Raindance Film Festival in London, the Australian’s music featured as part of the narrative on Not Alone, a short film by Jay Finocchiaro and Mycel Scheuer.
At the time of writing Bracken was working on two projects. In the summer of 2021 a handful of intimate solo concerts in Poland were recorded by Bracken’s good friend Grzegorz Gołębiowski. Completely acoustic, a limited run of the recordings are planned for release on the label OKOUCHO Recordings. As well as this Phillip is currently collaborating with Italian producer and composer Silvia Furlani on her forthcoming album Riptide due out in 2022.
‘Anyone who has had the opportunity to listen to Bracken knows how special this artist is. He freely combines folk, blues and soul, with the best traditions of songwriting. Live his music sounds exquisite and accompanied by guest musicians both the energetic and melancholic songs of Phillip are even more colourful.’
