Shotgun Lovesongs - Nickolas Butler
Shotgun Lovesongs is an ode to the things that really matter in life, love and loyalty, the power of music and the rugged beauty of nature.
Henry, Lee, Kip and Ronny grew up together in Little Wing, a rural Wisconsin town. Friends since childhood, they took different paths. Henry stayed in the family farm and got married with his first love, while the others left in search of more. Ronnie became a rodeo star, Kip made a fortune in town, and the musician Lee found fame but was heartbroken. Now all the four are back in town for a wedding.
"When I have nowhere to go, I come back here. I come back here and I find my voice as something that has slipped from my pockets. And every time I return I am surrounded by people who love me, who find myself. Here I can hear things, the world pulsates differently, the silence vibrates like a plucked string millions of years ago; there is music among the aspen and fir and oak trees and even among the fields of dried corn."
One of the main characters of Shotgun Lovesongs is inspired by Justin Vernon, founder of the folk group Bon Iver and friend of the author.
